Radiology Diversity

Message from the Director

Here at the UPMC Department of Radiology, we understand the importance of a diverse and inclusive community and the role it plays in training and the practice of medicine. The world is a diverse place and there is beauty and strength in its diversity. Here, we embrace and celebrate our differences.

Historically, the field of radiology has been inadequately representative, and meaningful transformation necessitates intentional actions. Hence, we are taking great strides to establish and sustain a diverse program. By joining forces with the undergraduate program, we are creating a pathway to radiology. Additionally, our month-long visiting student clerkship program is specifically designed to provide medical students with exceptional radiology exposure here at UPMC. We are collaborating with all our trainees, faculty, advanced practice providers, technologists, and other individuals who have been underrepresented in medicine, and actively seeking ways to improve their experience here. Furthermore, we are engaging with our underrepresented minority community to ensure that healthcare resources are equitably distributed. There is much to be accomplished, but we are eager to keep learning and growing.

Our training program will challenge you to make you a successful radiologist, it is essential that you are able to learn in an environment that is welcoming and congenial. As you embark on your journey, know that here at UPMC Department of Radiology you will be accepted, and your presence will add to what we believe is a special program.
