UPMC Radiology visits Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital/Shanghai Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine

At the end of September Dr. Jules Sumkin (Chairman), Dr. Andrew Cordle (Musculoskeletal imaging), Dr. Anish Ghodadra (Interventional Radiology), Dr. Alessandro Furlan (Abdominal Imaging) and Dr. Shandong Wu (Breast imaging) travelled to Shanghai, China as guest speakers at the 60th anniversary academic conference of Chinese diagnostic ultrasound in medicine.

Graduation 2018

The Department of Radiology held a graduation dinner for the graduating residents and fellows on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. The celebration was held at the University Club in Oakland and had over 130 people in attendance. Prior to the event, residents had the opportunity to vote for faculty for several awards.

Lung Density Analysis for Quantification of Emphysema on Chest CT Scans

Low dose CT scans obtained for lung cancer screening are now including a quantification of emphysema using software developed by the Imbio company (based in Minneapolis, MN).

Lung density analysis for emphysema is now FDA approved and has the technology has been validated by multiple studies. The process is fully automatic (data sent from scanner to Imbio software) with results included with CT images within minutes.
